5 Years Later - a Completed Surgical Residency, 2 Kids, and a Marriage.

I picked up my diploma today. I am so happy. It wasn't an easy road but I am officially done with residency. It has been a wonderful but trying 5 years of my life. It was full of ups and downs. I am so proud of myself for making it through my training. Medical residency can potentially take away the best years of one's life. I am so happy that I didn't let it do that to me. Being able to get married and have my children during residency was not an easy task but it was the best thing that I could have done. As women, we often feel like we have to sacrifice our motherhood for professional success but it doesn't have to be the case. Sure, I may have caused some eyebrow raising but I did it!

Today, I am celebrating, not just the completion of residency, but all the aspects of my life that happened in the last 5 years. I am so proud of every aspect - being a mother, a wife, and now as an ENT surgeon, no longer a resident. A special thank you to my husband for standing by my side, being a great supporter of my dreams, and being an amazing father. And thank YOU for reading, the well wishes, and sharing my journey. You can read about my story of motherhood in Residency here.

Now I am off to packing up the last of my boxes. We leave for California in a few days, aboard our RV for the 'great American road trip' I've always dreamed of taking since I was a little girl in Nigeria. I will be posting daily updates on Instagram, stay tuned.
